Cam Newton will get his first start for the Carolina Panthers, and he should do well against the Miami Dolphins. This is a chance for the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft to prove he deserves the job. Will he deliver?
The Panthers are trying to take steps in the right direction, and a win against the Dolphins will help their confidence moving forward. The Dolphins aren't 100 percent sold on quarterback Chad Henne, but if he can come out and stomp the lowly Panthers then he change the minds of those in charge at Miami.
Panthers Key Addition - Greg Olsen
Whether Newton or Jimmy Clausen starts the season off at quarterback, having a great tight end as a safety net will boost their play. Olsen was traded from the Chicago Bears to the Panthers in a surprise move, and the Panthers are happy they have more offensive weapons for their young quarterbacks. Bringing back DeAngelo Williams and Charles Johnson were also wise moves for the Panthers.
Dolphins Key Addition - Reggie Bush
Bush will have a chance to be more of a running back in Miami. The New Orleans Saints used him as a specialist back, but the Dolphins won't be using him in the return game that much. Miami ditched Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown, and they are putting their faith in Bush, which may or may not be the best idea.
Panthers Biggest Loss - Richard Marshall
Corner back Richard Marshall decided to leave the Panthers for the Arizona Cardinals. Marshall was a key factor in the reason the Panthers ranked 11th in the league against the pass in 2010. For a team that just had the No. 1 pick, losing top players at very important positions is something they do not need.
Dolphins Biggest Loss - Ronnie Brown
The Dolphins didn't re-sign a guy they picked second overall in the 2005 NFL draft. Brown will be greatly missed in Miami as he was a key contributor in the run game as well as the wildcat formation. He's had a few injuries in his career, but still would have produced at a high level for the Dolphins in 2011. Brown joins the Eagles on a one-year deal.

What They're Saying
Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer writes that the Panthers might be thin at running back this weekend. "Jonathan Stewart and Mike Goodson missed today's walk through with Achilles injuries they sustained this week in Spartanburg. Panthers coach Ron Rivera said both are questionable for the Dolphins' game."
Head coach Steve Sparano told the Miami Herald that, "I'm seeing more out of [Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas] every day in practice, but I really need to see it in the games at a consistent level."
The Dolphins are taking a risk having these two as their feature backs, and the game against the Panthers will be crucial in learning who will be the starter.
What's Worth Watching
Cam Newton will make his debut as the Panthers starter, which means you should tune in to see if he shines or falls flat on his face. The Dolphins aren't the best team out there, but Newton running the first team offense is enough to entice viewers to watch.
